Detailed Job Description:
Work in the dynamic called Product Engineering department that provides field support and leads sustaining engineering for the firmware of single and multi-function inkjet and laser printers. The firmware includes, but is not limited to, user interfaces, copy/scan, printing, performance, image quality, fax, network, security, interfaces to solutions, and low-level interfaces to hardware ( such as scanners, fax modems ).
Field support involves resolving customer-reported firmware problems. Sustaining engineering includes both
- specialized firmware versions to meet custom needs and
- periodic firmware releases that provide both fixes and new features for existing hardware in the field.
The assessment tester requires strong trouble-shooting and communication skills. The responsibilities include:
- Assess new firmware releases:
o Run manual and automated test suites daily on new versions of sustaining engineering firmware under development.
o Run manual and automated test suites on new versions of firmware with fixes for specific field issues.
o Report problems to the development engineers and assisting them in debugging
o Create test strategies and plan new testing approaches and tools, documenting and reviewing per the peer review process.
o Communicate and train other team members on new technology and associated tests.
o Trouble-shoot firmware problems, recreating them and narrowing them down.
o Trouble-shoot hardware problems, and identifying whether firmware or hardware is the problem.
o Assist other testers, test engineers, development engineers, and PE team members with functionality, testing, automation, trouble shooting, etc
- Maintain lab equipment and printer hardware
o Keep printer hardware up-to-date with latest firmware versions
o Assist others with hardware problems.
