Overview:

The Project Manager provides oversight and is responsible for all phases of various software development and automation projects, including coordinating team members, material, and equipment. Projects are installed throughout the U.S. The Project Manager will ensure that all specifications are being followed and that work is proceeding on schedule and within budget. By being the single point of contact to our customers a proactive, positive, problem solving approach is crucial.

Requirements:

* Bachelor s degree in Engineering with 3 to 5 years of related experience. Preferred Industrial Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science. MBA Preferred
* Strong computer skills with: Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Databases (SQL Server and Oracle)
* Previous project management experience preferred.
* Experience with material handling systems and/or warehouse management systems preferred.

General Responsibilities:

* Positive customer relations are of utmost importance to ASAP. This includes submitting weekly Project Reports to keep the customer continually updated, holding teleconferences, and scheduling face-to-face meetings. The Project Manager must learn the customer s business to best represent its needs to the ASAP team.
* The PM must continually manage the project budget, approve all purchases, approve all invoices, and constantly try to improve the financial standing of the project (cutting costs, not quality). Outcome: project is completed within or under budget.
* The PM will create the initial Gantt chart using an ASAP Project Schedule Template in conjunction with the Scheduling Manager. As the project progresses, the PM must ensure tasks are completed or rescheduled as required. Bottom line: project is completed on or ahead of schedule.
* The PM will be an integral participant in the testing, debugging, and eventual turnover of the system to the customer. Spending the necessary time on-site is a critical aspect of this successful transition.
* While the Information Analyst group will perform the main activities in the Functional System Design (FSD) process, the PM must provide key input about the customer s operations to ensure that ASAP creates the best design possible for the customer.
* The PM may manage one or more System Integrators for a project. In addition, the PM may be responsible for the performance of on-site subcontractors, Software Developers, Controls Engineers, and other team members.
* The PM may be called on to help sell ASAP products to potential customers through formal presentations to anyone from senior executives to warehouse employees. Also, the PM regularly consults on the costing and functionality portions of customer quotes.
* While ASAP s customer support group is tasked with this responsibility, the PM will often be relied upon to help support the customer s system and improve its operational effectiveness. This includes both remote and on-site customer support as required.
* System Quality Assurance. While ASAP s quality assurance group is tasked with this responsibility, the PM shares in the QA process to ensure they have a comprehensive knowledge of the inter-workings of each software module. This is necessary for expedient on-site troubleshooting and remote customer support.
* Continual Improvement of Hardware Troubleshooting Skills. The PM must constantly expand their knowledge in the mechanical, electrical, and controls aspects of each ASAP system to better troubleshoot potential customer problems.
* Continual Improvement of Networking Knowledge. Every aspect of our systems is affected one way or another by the computer network on our customer sites. The PM is expected to become knowledgeable in the arena of protocols (TCP/IP, XML), Operating Systems (Windows, Novell, Linux), server configurations, and user administration. PM s are expected to begin their pursuit of MCSE certification immediately after joining ASAP.
* Work with Software Developers. The PM will regularly communicate with Software Developers to improve our product and solve issues. They must grasp major principles of ASAP s development platform and architecture in order to effectively work with the Software Developers.
* Proprietary Software Expert. The PM must become an expert on all of ASAP s software packages and all the back-end database structures that support them.
* Provide Customer and Internal Training. PM s will regularly provide scheduled customer training on ASAP software products either at ASAP s office or on-site. Likewise, PM s will be integral in training new and existing employees in designated areas (applications, networks, reporting functions).
* Work with Vendors. The PM will primarily interface with ASAP s vendors for requisitions, product improvements, training requirements, or other needed tasks.
* Create PC Hardware Specifications. The PM will help customize the PC specifications for each of their projects.
* Continual Improvement of Business Processes. Because the PM gains a pivotal understanding of every aspect of ASAP s business processes, they are expected to proactively identify potential problems, create solutions, and help implement the needed personnel, procedural, or technical solution.
* Keep Updated with Industry Trends. PM s are expected to study emerging technologies within the material-handling/warehouse management industry and recommend potential applications that would improve ASAP s products.
* A minimum of 50% overnight travel should be expected.
