Jobing Description
Essential Functions of the Position:
Manage all long term and short term R & D projects to meet all company
quality, sales, financial, and customer objectives.
Administer R&D resources to ensure successful and timely execution of
product development and other assignments.
Coordinate cross-functional team collaboration to prioritize and execute new
product development from ideation and concept phases through marketing and
commercialization.
Build R&D project plans with clear objectives, timelines, risks, and costs.
Develop new products to enhance the product line or fill customer requests
that meet established cost, nutritional, ingredient, flavor, and functional
parameters
Drive cost-saving opportunities in product formulation.
Organize and coordinate required product testing and validation prior to new
product launches.
Identify and incorporate consumer, culinary, and food technology trends into
innovative products, expanded processing capabilities, and business-building
opportunities.
Collaborate with vendors on new ingredients and technology; evaluate product
samples for acceptability as new raw material or new vendor.
Research and recommend solutions for technical concerns including
formula/product structural changes, ingredient replacements, label or
manufacturing requirements, and product quality.
Prepare and monitor key department and NPD metrics; report key project
management metrics to appropriate departments and individuals.
Select and hire new R & D personnel; train, mentor, and coach R&D staff to
improve team performance and develop individuals professionally.
Maintain performance records and conduct performance appraisals of direct
reports.
Maintain clean and safe laboratory environment; ensure laboratory equipment
properly maintained through regular calibration and appropriate cleaning
procedures.
Maintain accurate records of work activities in lab notebooks, project database,
and various R&D electronic files.
Marginal Functions of the Position:
Present new products and concepts to key customers or sales representatives.
Administer budgetary guidelines to effectively manage personnel, supply, and
equipment resources.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
M.S. in Food Science or related field.
Work Experience: Seven years of R&D, product development, and related
experience. Three years of supervisory experience.
Physical Demands: Able to work with airborne dust, ingredient particles, and
strong aromas. Able to travel periodically (10-25%)
Required Skills: Solid understanding of food science and experimental design principles.
In-depth knowledge of food formulations and ingredient functionality.
Strong planning, organization, and project management skills.
Aptitude for innovation and creative problem-solving.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work in fast pace environment and manage multiple, changing priorities.
Strong presentation and team building skills.
Sound judgment and business acumen; ability to calculate risks on new products and process technology.
Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office
